American Banker: How Ripple's $50M investment in blockchain research could change U.K. payments

Earlier this year, Ripple committed $50 million to the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), collaborating with 17 universities globally to foster innovation in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The University College London’s Centre for Blockchain Technologies (UCL CBT), under the directorship of Paolo Tasca, is a significant beneficiary of this initiative. Tasca anticipates that the research propelled by the UBRI will streamline interbank payment infrastructures and enhance regulation and compliance procedures in the U.K. payments market, with UCL CBT’s Blockchain Technology for Algorithmic Regulation and Compliance (BARAC) project playing a pivotal role in optimising the efficiency of regulatory reporting through blockchain technologies.
